End the Cycle promotes the human rights and lived experience of persons with disabilities in low and middle income countries

End the Cycle promotes tools and resources to help international development practitioners raise awareness of and practice disability-inclusive development.

Persons with disabilities in low and middle income countries tell their own stories in their own words. They personally approve the stories and photographs that represent them.

End the Cycle’s free and downloadable resources can be used in all sorts of activities and programs to powerfully portray the cycle of poverty of disability, and that it can end when persons with disabilities are included in development programs.

End the Cycle’s unique human rights methodology means this is one way you can bring the lived experience of persons with disabilities from low and middle income countries into all your activities, in accordance with the ‘nothing about us without us’ principle.

If you have any questions or comments about End the Cycle and its resources, please contact CBM Australia.

If you or your organisation uses End the Cycle resources, we would love to hear from you as CBM Australia is planning the next phase of this project to take place in 2024.

Our Approach

End the Cycle is committed to working in partnership with persons with disabilities in the governance, planning and implementation of the End the Cycle program.

All End the Cycle resources are developed through our unique, rights-based methodology, which ensures that the people who are featured in the resources are empowered and in control of how their stories are portrayed.

End the Cycle methodology requires that:

  • People’s stories are told in their own words;
  • The people featured in the stories approve of the final versions of the resources and any relevant photographs; and
  • The resources cannot be modified in any way without the permission of our local partner groups that represent the people featured in the stories.

This means that all of our resources are made in partnership with persons with disabilities and according to the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
